So as the ice melts, and the real bears starve, Canada has proudly placed a baby polar bear on the butt of each diamond, from us to you. 'Tis true. What else can we do? What is different with the newly found diamond mines in north Canada is that God, or the fiery heat of hellish inner earth brought these diamonds to the surface in a smaller cluster size than those of Africa. There will likely be no Hope diamond from Canada, but really, who cares? For you and I and the world, the freakish fact that was soon realized about the new diamonds from Canada.
That is, when the Canadian diamonds are dug out, they tend to fall apart into almost ring size perfection. And this cuts down waste and valuable time of diamond cutters who do their best to cut down a too large diamond and break it correctly. Many a slip betwix the blade and the diamond has occurred, raising the net costs of diamonds to us. And what is more, the reducing supply of world diamonds had led to much illicit blood diamond trade from Angola, where each area warlord has laid land mines to protect his diamond turf, causing mutilation and death to farmers and travelers.
Until humanity and civilized order prevail, those are what are called blood diamonds, and men in alley ways in Antwerp still exchange diamonds for guns and blood. Not so in Australia or Canada. In the frozen rocky northern Canada, any skulker would stand out, and Sergeant Preston of the Mounties would soon have him cornered, faithful sled dogs chewing at his legs.We can't remember who the police of Australia, but he would be just as efficient and also get his skulking man.
Kangaroos apparently box with their feet. So kit bag, billabong, off to jail we'll go waltzing, Matilda. Sled dogs and a boomerang will do it right for us. Not a land mine in the land. Nicer diamonds, no blood. Just two bad boomers in jail, one too hot, one too cold. We make him run to the outhouse when it hits 50 below. No land mines, but there is still an occasional live polar bear out there. And they are quite hungry. Now that would be nature's way of revenge about blood diamonds. Send that blood dictator Mugabe guy up here, he could feed a mother polar bear and her cub for a week. Finally serve the dear mother earth in a worthy way.
But a final comment on these new Canadian smaller less expensive diamonds more easily on the net. I have four grown daughters, each of whom took the usual, figure skating, horse back riding, Irish or Scottish folk dance. And we spent many hours in stores for fancy costumes, which usually involved sequins and fancy elegance. Either mom would have, or not, the time to add extras to the costume before the big performance. And what occurs to me was that was twenty years too late to now, where net sites for diamonds now have sections on "loose diamonds".
Loose diamonds are those too small for rings or other jewelry, other than as backdrop for a central larger diamond, gemstone, ruby or a family heirloom. But for a family now, it would be affordable to be that person with a small bag of loose diamonds, so sew on, or have the shop sew in, these "sequins" to your angels elegant winning show piece to her winning ways. And that thought makes me smile, how decency and humanity can prevail. The size of the diamond determines it's price per ounce, and the little ones are on the bargain table on many sites.
Not on the downtown jewelry store counter, not yet by a far measure. But you can sit back at home, skip the traffic accident, make a cup of tea. Settle down and gaze around on your net. You can fairly bet, are trusted polar bear and kangaroo diamonds, at all range of lower prices. Bid low, they are for you.
