UPDATE, 3:45 p.m. ET: Kucinich now plans to hold his news conference announcing articles of impeachment against the vice president at 5 p.m. ET today. (Kucinich was in the Speaker's Lobby off the House chamber just moments ago personally handing out press releases announcing that the big event is back on.)

Let's hope Cheney doesn't have a dental appointment or anything between now and then!

Kucinich didn't think the Veep was healthy enough to be impeached earlier today (see below), but Cheney seemed sure looked robust when he made a rare appearance before the TV cameras following the Senate Republicans' weekly luncheon today, blasting Democrats for their "defeatism" on the Iraq War.

Original Post:

It appears Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) wants Vice President Dick Cheney in tip-top shape for those impeachment proceedings.

With the Veep making an unexpected visit to his doctor this morning to check the blood clot in his leg, Kucinich has delayed his gonzo plan to introduce articles of impeachment against the Veep.

Kucinich -- the darkest of dark-horse presidential candidates -- was scheduled to hold a noon news conference today, but his press secretary sent out an email to reporters marked "URGENT" with a headline in bold letter declaring: "Kucinich Postpones Press Conference in Wake of Today's Reports on the Vice President's Health."

"News reports this morning indicate the Vice President was experiencing a medical crisis. Until the Vice President's condition is clarified, I am placing any action on hold," Kucinich said in the statement.

Kucinich hasn't given any clues, but his dead-on-arrival impeachment plan most likely focuses on accusations that the vice president mislead the United States into war with Iraq. While House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and other Democratic leaders are talking about bringing an end to the Iraq War, they're cringing at talk of impeachment.

Kucinich appears undeterred by misgivings from his leadership, but other events have intervened. As the Sleuth exclusively reported, Kucinich initially planned to introduce articles of impeachment "with respect to the conduct of Vice President Cheney" last week. But that was before the massacre at Virginia Tech.

Now, it looks like Cheney's trip to the doctor will delay Kucinich's shot at getting a much-needed media blitz. (Kudos to Kucinich for his compassion! Only a vegan, only a vegan.)
